Federal Lawsuit Says Gambling Operation Was Run Out Of Upscale East Brainerd Road Home
posted July 15, 2005
An illegal gambling operation that brought in bags of cash was run out of an upscale house in East Brainerd, federal authorities say.
A federal lawsuit asks that the house at 2008 Igou Crossing Dr. be confiscated by the government, saying an illegal numbers operation was carried on there and money laundering was involved in its purchase.
The lawsuit, filed in Federal Court in Chattanooga, also asks for the confiscation of a condominium in Smyrna, Ga.
It says Chattanooga businessman James Houston was involved with both properties. He is listed as the owner of Shallowford Auto Sales on Shallowford Road.
The suit says federal authorities have spent the past two years investigating Houston and others for gambling and money laundering.
It says on May 5, there were 17 search warrants issued in East and Middle Tennessee and six in North Alabama.
The lawsuit does not say anyone has been charged in the case.
The suit says a number of individuals told them that Houston is involved in an illegal interstate lottery. The suit says he was investing the proceeds of the gambling in real estate and was taking in so much money that he needed to put some of the property in other names.
Agents said Tyra Barton was involved in the operation with Houston, and she would carry bags of cash from Knoxville to Chattanooga to pay off lottery winnings. It says Barton also collected lottery tickets and cash from members of Houston's operation in Chattanooga and delivered them back to Knoxville from Chattanooga.
Agents said they interviewed William C. Henderson, of 409 Elizabeth Ave. in Knoxville, who said he had worked for Houston for 10-12 years. Agents said they had been told that when Houston was not in Knoxville, Henderson would transfer the cash to Tyra Barton.
Henderson told agents he had the keys to a Houston residence at 5205 Fountain Gate Road in Knoxville. He said in early May he went to the residence and got a bag of cash. He said it was about 3"-5" thick. He said he took it to Tyra Barton's residence on Davenport Road in Knoxville.
Agents said they stopped Tyra Barton in Bradley County on the morning of May 5 and confiscated $21,000 in cash.
Henderson said Houston gave him part of the money for buying a house on Georgia Bell Lane in Cleveland, Tn.
Wilhemina Scott of 370 Lang St. in Cleveland, Tn., said she took part in Houston's lottery since 1998. She said in March 2003 she was approached by Houston about purchasing real estate.
She said she agreed, and she was given cash to be deposited in her account.
The suit says Houston is the owner of Goldmine Capital LLC, which made a $100,000 loan to Ms. Scott. It says on March 12, 2003, Houston made out a $100,000 cashier's check on an AmSouth Bank account to Goldmine Capital to use to fund the loan to Ms. Scott for the purchase of 2008 Igou Crossing.
The suit says Houston or Barton would give cash to Ms. Scott each month for the mortgage payments.
Agents said on April 14 they retrieved a green garbage bag from outside 2008 Igou Crossing. They said it contained shredded privacy envelopes used in the gambling operation by runners for placing betting slips and money.
On May 5, a search was made of the Igou Crossing house and agents found shredding machines and gambling paraphernalia, including privacy envelopes and lottery numbers.
The suit says the utilities at the home were in the name of Carol White. They interviewed her, and she said Houston had asked that they be put in her name. She said Tyra Barton stayed in the residence.
Ms. White said she met Houston when she worked at a dry cleaners and he brought in his clothes. She said she later took a job at State Farm Insurance, and Houston transferred all his accounts there.
She said she heard rumors that Houston was involved with illegal numbers. She said she asked him about it, and he denied it.
Ms. White said Houston asked her to put some of his property in her name, but she declined. Agents said they showed her Georgia property that was titled to her. She said she did not know anything about that.
The suit says at the Smyrna condo at 4805 Ivy Ridge Dr., a witness frequently saw a tall black male who drove a white Lexus with a Tennessee license plate. The witness also saw a red Lexus there.
Another black male in his late 30s driving a late model truck that had a sign "We Buy Lots and Houses" would stay at the Smyrna condo 1-2 days a week, it was stated.
The suit said the red Lexus and the white Lexus were traced to Shallowford Auto Sales in Chattanooga, which agents said is owned by Houston. |

There were many people living together in a one-block
complex. One of the wives complained to her husband,
"Look here! All of our neighbors' husbands call their wives
such sweet and romantic names.
(wow power leveling),
You never call me one like that."
So the husband said, "What do they call their wives?
I never heard anything!"
The wife said, "The one who lives on our right,
he calls his wife 'apple pie'. The one who lives next
to him calls his wife 'sweet cherry blossom'.
The one who lives to the left of us calls his wife 'rosemary'.
(It's a very fragrant kind of spice you put into your food.)
The one next to him, calls his wife 'my lovely pizza'.
The other one says, 'Oh my diamond, my glorious diamond'.
And you! You never call me anything so sweet
and romantic like that!"
(World of warcraft Power Leveling) ,
So the husband shook his head and said,
"I am sorry, but the one who lives on the right,
he is a baker. The one next to him is a gardener,
he plants Japanese cherries. The one who calls his
wow gold,
wife 'rosemary', grows herbs! And the other one calls his
wife 'diamond' because he is a jeweler. I cannot! I am
a shoe-repairer. I can't call you 'my broken shoe'. "
It was good that he wasn't a coffin-maker. Otherwise,
he called her, 'my solid coffin' to give her the
sweetest name that she desired

Although neither or them remembered the occasion, Diana first met her future husband when she was just a baby. It happened during the winter of 1961, when twelve-year-old Charles, Prince of Wales, was visiting his mother's Sandringham retreat.
World of Warcraft power leveling,
At the time, your Prince Charles barely glanced at the tiny baby sleeping in her cot. After all, bow could a twelve-year-old boy be interested in babies?
But the Prince would eventually take a very keen interest in this particular baby —it would just take some time.
flyff penya,
In fact, it would be sixteen years before Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer took place in the middle of a farmer's field during a shooting party in November 1977.
It was a cold, rainy, bleak afternoon when sixteen-year-old Diana, dressed in a borrowed parka that was too large for her, boots, and blue jeans, crossed the field to meet the heir to the British throne.
It was almost twilight when the two came face to face near Nobottle Woods.
knight online power leveling,
"What a sad man," Diana thought when she first saw him. The future Princess was intrigued to finally meet the most eligible bachelor in England, thought she was not impressed with his five-foot-ten-inch height, thinking to herself that she would tower over him in high heels. But Diana would later say that she admired his beautiful blue eyes.
archlord power leveling,
The Prince later remarked that he thought Diana was "a very jolly and attractive" girl, "full of fun," though Diana herself believed that "he barely noticed me at all."

Diana, it was discovered later, first came to the attention of the royal family when she acted as a bridesmaid for her sister Jane's wedding that April. It was the first major social occasion that Diana attended as a young woman. And many of the royals were surprised at how beautiful and mature the once-gawky girl had become.
Even the Queen Mother. Prince Charles's grandmother, noticed Diana's beauty, grace, and charm. She complimented the Earl on the fine job he had done in bringing Diana up.
world of warcraft power leveling,
A short time later, Prince Charles sent his valet to hand-deliver a formal invitation for Diana to accompany him that very evening to the opera and a latenight dinner at the palace.
Though she was flustered, and the invitation came at such short notice, Diana accepted. She and her roommate, Carolyn Bartholomew, hurried to dress and prepare Diana for her big date. The evening was a success, and an invitation to party on the royal yacht came soon after……
Although she was intimidated by the crowd at Balmoral, Diana was wise enough not to stay in the castle itself. She asked for, and was granted, an invitation to stay with her sister Jane and her young husband at their cottage on the Balmoral estate.
The Prince visited Diana there every day, offering to escort her to a barbecue, or extending an invitation for a long walk in the woods.
When Charles went to Switzerland for a ski vacation, Diana missed him terribly. He called her after a day or two, and told Diana he had something important to ask her.
He arrived home on February, 3, 1981.Three days later, he arranged to see Diana at Windsor Castle. Late that evening, while Prince Charles was showing Diana the nursery, he asked her to marry him.
To his surprise, Diana treated his proposal as a joke, She actually giggled. But soon she could see that Prince Charles was serious. Despite an insistent voice inside her head that told her she would never be Queen, she accepted his proposal.
Diana told Prince Charles over and over that she loved him.
"Whatever love means." Was his reply.

A Coke and a Smile
I know now that the man who sat with me on the old wooden stairs that hot summer night over thirty-five years ago was not a tall man. But to a five-year-old, he was a giant. We sat side by side, watching the sun go down behind the old Texaco service station across the busy street. A street that I was never allowed to cross unless accompanied by an adult, or at the very least, an older sibling. (world of warcraft gold)
Cherry-scented smoke from Grampy's pipe kept the hungry mosquitoes at bay while gray, wispy swirls danced around our heads. Now and again, he blew a smoke ring and laughed as I tried to target the hole with my finger. I, clad in a cool summer nightie, and Grampy, his sleeveless T-shirt, sat watching the traffic. We counted cars and tried to guess the color of the next one to turn the corner.
Once again, I was caught in the middle of circumstances. The fourth born of six children, it was not uncommon that I was either too young or too old for something. This night I was both. While my two baby brothers slept inside the house, my three older siblings played with friends around the corner, where I was not allowed to go. I stayed with Grampy, and that was okay with me. I was where I wanted to be. My grandfather was baby-sitting while my mother, father and grandmother went out. World of warcraft Power Leveling
Thirsty?" Grampy asked, never removing the pipe from his mouth.
" Yes," was my reply." How would you like to run over to the gas station there and get yourself a bottle of Coke?"
I couldn't believe my ears. Had I heard right? Was he talking to me? On my family's modest income, Coke was not a part of our budget or diet. A few tantalizing sips was all I had ever had, and certainly never my own bottle.
" Okay," I replied shyly, already wondering how I would get across the street. Surely Grampy was going to come with me. cd keys
Grampy stretched his long leg out straight and reached his huge hand deep into the pocket. I could hear the familiar jangling of the loose change he always carried. Opening his fist, he exposed a mound of silver coins. There must have been a million dollars there. He instructed me to pick out a dime. After he deposited the rest of the change back into his pocket, he stood up.
" Okay," he said, helping me down the stairs and to the curb, " I'm going to stay here and keep an ear out for the babies. I'll tell you when it's safe to cross. You go over to the Coke machine, get your Coke and come back out. Wait for me to tell you when it's safe to cross back."
My heart pounded. I clutched my dime tightly in my sweaty palm. Excitement took my breath away.
Grampy held my hand tightly. Together we looked up the street and down, and back up again. He stepped off the curb and told me it was safe to cross. He let go of my hand and I ran. I ran faster than I had ever run before. The street seemed wide. I wondered if I would make it to the other side. Reaching the other side, I turned to find Grampy. There he was, standing exactly where I had left him, smiling proudly. I waved.
" Go on, hurry up," he yelled. Runes of Magic gold
My heart pounded wildly as I walked inside the dark garage.I had been inside the garage before with my father. My surroundings were familiar. I heard the Coca-Cola machine motor humming even before I saw it. I walked directly to the big old red-and-white dispenser. I knew where to insert my dime. I had seen it done before and had fantasized about this moment many times.
The big old monster greedily accepted my dime, and I heard the bottles shift. On tiptoes I reached up and opened the heavy door. There they were: one neat row of thick green bottles, necks staring directly at me, and ice cold from the refrigeration. I held the door open with my shoulder and grabbed one. With a quick yank, I pulled it free from its bondage. Another one immediately took its place. The bottle was cold in my sweaty hands. I will never forget the feeling of the cool glass on my skin. With two hands, I positioned the bottleneck under the heavy brass opener that was bolted to the wall. The cap dropped into an old wooden box, and I reached in to retrieve it. I was cold and bent in the middle, but I knew I needed to have this souvenir. Coke in hand, I proudly marched back out into the early evening dusk. Grampy was waiting patiently. He smiled.
wow power level," Stop right there," he yelled. One or two cars sped by me, and once again, Grampy stepped off the curb." Come on, now," he said, " run." I did. Cool brown foam sprayed my hands." Don't ever do that alone," he warned.I held the Coke bottle tightly, fearful he would make me pour it into a cup, ruining this dream come true. He didn't. One long swallow of the cold beverage cooled my sweating body. I don't think I ever felt so proud. |

I was RuneScape Gold,in my mid-20s (about 10 years ago) when this occurred. A friend had a small group of us over and we were drinking and carrying on, and by night, we were all feeling pretty good. At around 3 in the morning, we had the brilliant idea of going outside and wandering the RuneScape Gold neighborhood.
For starters, archlord gold, the neighborhood was in a not-so-great part of town, pretty well-known as a haven for drug users of all kinds, mostly crackheads, as well as gangsters and general thugs. While I didn’t live too far away, the difference was night and day. I knew better than to wander this area, especially at night, but off we went. To add to that, we were pretty tipsy, talking quite loudly for the hour, I’m sure, just generally being archlord gold disorderly.
We started last chaos gold, crossing a small park, when we were approached very suddenly by a short, grinning black man. He appeared to be in his late 40s, possibly early 50s, with a thin afro, some of it gray. His smile was absolutely beaming and it made me smile hugely, too. It was the most infectious smile I’d ever seen. In fact, this man had the most infectious spirit I’d ever encountered. I felt joyous beyond belief. Immediately we greeted and hugged each other. We called one another by name without introducing ourselves, and although I can very clearly remember him calling me by my last chaos gold name.
I couldn’t wow cd keys, remember his name even as soon as the next day. But at that moment, we absolutely knew each other, absolutely loved each other, like no two people had loved each other before. The only other words we spoke to one another were, "I know you." And we said this almost in synch, as the hugeness of that thought just occurred to both of us. Our souls were absolutely intimate. The moment lasted about 30 seconds. My friends merely watched with astonishment because something was just generally so bizarre about that wow cd keys moment.
Then maple story power leveling, the man moved on around us, and I didn’t watch him go, but could see him leaving out of the periphery of my vision. I have no idea why that little detail strikes me as being so important, to this day, but it does. I’m sure I smiled on for another good minute, just being extremely happy. I was absolutely, positively, 100% no longer drunk from that moment on. The episode, the "meeting," was not the result of being drunk, but it sure ended it.I don’t know who that man was. I’d never met him in my life. I’m quite sure if you asked him, he’d say the same thing about me today. I don’t know why I know maple story power leveling that.
What had been dog carriers,so beautiful that night the next day scared the hell out of me. I couldn’t understand what had happened. I remembered vividly what had happened, but it made no sense to me. Likewise, my friends all contend it’s the strangest thing any of them ever experienced. They all felt something "heavy" occurring as the two of us met. They somehow knew that we didn’t actually know each other, despite our reaction to one another.Something purely spiritual happened that night, I’m quite sure of it. I’ll never forget dog carriers it. |

Some vintage dresses are those perfect gowns you dream of,wedding dresses says Mark Ingram, CEO and creative director of Manhattan's Mark Ingram Bridal Atelier, but others are too costume-y, too dated or, more likely, wedding gowns simply ill-fitting.wedding gowns
Do you need to wear a bra? Do you have a boyish figure? An hourglass shape? What about your hips? All of these, prom dresses he says, are factors in buying any wedding gown, but particularly those meant to fit women of previous generations.prom dresses
Silver, a resource for Hollywood red-carpet looks, also warns that finding a pristine white vintage dress can be hard, and that a good vintage dress, wedding dresses if it's not an heirloom, can be more expensive than you'd think. Even with your grandmother's dress, there could be pricey alterations.wedding dresses
Still, you can hit contemporary fashion trends. Something from the '70s, a little bohemian but sexy, too, is probably the hippest look going.
A bride's goal often is a timeless look, since the photos will hopefully last a lifetime, but each era still has its signature, says Michael Shettel, designer of bridal brand Alfred Angelo.wedding dresses You might be best off with a classic silhouette, wedding dresses while adjusting embellishments and details to current tastes, he suggests. |
